We just completed our first Continental Math League competition last Thursday, you may have heard some of your kids talk about it. What it is, is an enrichment opportunity for those mathematicians that can use their logic and problem solving skills to compete against kids from all over!
We compete the first Thursday of the month. The kids answer the questions here in class, I correct and send our scores off to be evaluated and compared. The results are then tabulated and shared with us about 2 weeks later (I will post as soon as I get them!) It was kind of a last minute decision to begin the competition, we were waiting for funding, but now that we know we are going to be, we will be practicing logic type word problem skills in class to prepare for the next meet! In the Spring, the goal is to enter a local competition called Math Masters. Kids would be competing against of the most brilliant math minds in Minnesota and I would love put a team or two to the test :) Continue to talk to your child about the importance of math, how you use it at your job or in your home life...calculating taxes, payroll, medications, carpentry...etc
