Our first science groups bean pod sprouted today! We just started chapter 3, Plants. We are still learning about what makes a good experiment and the different parts of an experiment. We are focusing on the observational stage of the scientific method this time around as well as understand how plants grow and what essential things they need to live. Stay tuned. The fall colors are coming, quicker than maybe normal with the recent cold weather. The fall colors are my favorite time of year. Watching nature go through its cycle is one of mother natures true beauties. I do try and send home a book order once a month, they are completely optional. Most of the books are really good but there is definitely some "junk" hidden in those orders as well. I try to do my best at school to point out which items would be best to spend our parents hard earned money on :) It's also a good idea when picking out books to ask your child if they know it will be a good fit level? There is nothing worse than them getting a book they are excited about but then not being able to actually read it right away! Our online code is HCGCL at www.clubs2.scholastic.com. Any online order will earn our class a free digital book to use on your childs iPad at school, all other orders earn us points to eventually redeem books as well. It's been a great first two weeks of school! The kids have really transitioned back into the routine of being a student in a school setting again. We've been working really hard on our reading stamina. We've had a few bumps in the road but overall have almost made our goal of 20 mins of everyone reading the whole time! I know we will make it next week. I had to take a picture of Emma, she is always so lost in her books, it's awesome to see her at work! We are currently working on rounding numbers to varies place values. Students should be able to round (estimate) any number up to 100,000, including any place value within that number. Here is quick game you could practice at home with your child. Click and save the picture, and print a color or black/white copy and then use a paper clip to spin the spinner. First player to make it back to their home wins!
