Parents...a useful tool if your iPad is misplaced

I have already used it once this year when a student forgot it on a bus. It didn't work initially because it was still on the bus and not connected to a wifi source but once it was, it sent me a notification. Luckily it was brought to the middle school and had a wifi connection. Remember, their iPads will act differently than a phone. Phones have constant wifi access, enabling them to use the "find my phone" app all the time. iPads only have wifi if they are within range of a hot spot. Please post any comments or suggestions you have on the blog! I would love for parents to start having more of a conversation about our devices because I know a lot of you have questions, concerns, things that work at your house with your child that other parents are struggling with. So if something works for you...or you are looking for advice please share!

Good Morning Super Students, if you did not finish your homework yesterday, please make sure you have chosen your job and have your salary written down in your budget packet. You also need to have your annual salary calculated so that you know what your monthly budget is going to be (divide by 12). That is your first priority, then finish morning work. Reminder that book checkout is tomorrow, please put your books in the return bin before then! Let's make today a good one.

Some of you may have kids in my WIN group. If so, we have begun reading the book "WONDER" by RJ Palacio. Even if your child isn't part of that group, I highly suggest reading this amazing story! Click on the image to hear an interview with RJ about why she chose to write this story.

Wonder is about a young man nicknamed "Auggie". He has been homeschooled his entire life by his mother to protect him from the harsh world around him. You see, Auggie was born with a facial deformation, he doesn't look like your "average" child. However, his parents decide it's finally time for him to attend middle school. His parents worst fears come true but they are also met with unexpected kindness from kids and teachers alike!

Good Morning Future World Changers! As you can see I am not here. Bode has Croup, an infection of the larynx. If you see your fellow classmates pass along the message to read morning message on their iPads, the sub will not have a computer! Complete morning work as always though. I expect many of you to be helpers today. Please make sure the VCR and audio box are turned on for WAEL, make your lunch choices and grab breakfast!

As far as our day goes here are a few notes:

Leadership groups you will meet today with Mr. Hanks at the following times:
8:30 am- 9:15 am - Girls' Life Choices group- conference room

9:30 am-10:15 am - Girls' and Boys' leadership meet together

10:30 am-11;15 am  boys' life choices-conference room

Kyler, Joan is also gone today, you don't need to go to her room in the morning!

Homework is due tomorrow for both groups, you will have TONS of time to work on it in class today after your quick check.

Please help Shaun make his way around the building today. Not only will it be his first day in school but his teacher is absent! He will sit in Ayianna's desk by Rubyn and his locker will be next to Cooper's. Please help him find those items. Also, his school number will be #14....there is an extra lunch token in my green bowl on my desk at the bottom if you'd like to give to him and show him how to make lunch choice. He won't have an iPad so Rubyn, I'm looking at you to share with him today and make some good choices :)

After your quick check, I am going to give you work time to complete your homework. If you are done with it, you will have some time to either: read quietly, play any math game from schoology or our website, sudoku (in math course, new folder called "Extra Activities") Owen, there is an INSANE level just for you :) or I put some fun multiplication/division practice coloring sheets in the math course in that same "extra activities" folder. Color them in Notability, I also added a brain teaser book! You can open in notability as well and work on which ever problem you want...Jack for you!

You may also read the articles I posted on the blog the last few days...lots of world news to catch up on and be informed!

Team Building Exercise #2

10/21/2015

Teams were given 20 pieces of spaghetti, 1 yard of string, 1 yard of tape, 1 marshmallow and 18 minutes to build the tallest structure they could. The catch was, the building had to be free standing with only those objects and a flat surface, i.e. a desk, and the mallow had to stay on top long enough for me to measure! We had a few groups be successful in building a structure that did not collapse, others learned a valuable lesson in teamwork and planning :)
