I hope everyone has a safe night tonight going around to collect candy for the WE scare HUNGER candy drive. Remember teachers will donate $.50 for every 1 pound of candy the school raises and if you are someone who does not trick or treat you can still help by bringing in a food shelf item or two!
Thank you to those students and their families (you know who you are!) who have graciously volunteered to bring in a pumpkin to carve tomorrow afternoon. It is always a great experience because I always have at least 4-5 students who have never had the experience of pulling guts from a pumpkin! Have fun tonight and see you all tomorrow morning, don't forget our spelling and math test tomorrow!

Your child has already taken the MAPS reading and math tests this fall. Hopefully they have shared their score and goals with you. TIES is a company that looks at that data from all the schools in Minn. and then figures out what MAPS score a student would need to possibly pass the MCA test that year. Please remember it does not guarentee it only predicts. It's just one piece of data we can use to know if things are on track for your child! Here are the new 2013 benchmarks (also found under teacher resources for later). Just look under MAPS, Fall, then 3rd grade. A green score means they are on pace (grade level), yellow means slightly behind (below grade level) and red means more than 1 year behind
Your third grader is going to be taking the MN OLPA practice test this week at school. The state gives us two opportunities to learn the format, questioning techniques and what we need to work on before the actual MCA test in May. The parent letter sent home can also be found under the PARENT tab and then "MCA/OLPA parent explanation letter" in the middle column if you would like to reference it later in the year! Good luck to everyone and remember to eat a good breakfast and sleep lots!

We are all excited to start our year of giving and hope you are all ready to help! Amy pumped to be at the xcel center! You could feel the energy outside the building, show starts in 9 mins. Good morning super students from the big white can on highway 94! We are nearing our destination and everyone is getting excited to arrive! Make sure to check back often as we will be posting a few pictures from the event! Remember to grab your library books after reading. It may be a good idea to brainstorm about your writing topic as well, you could create a mind map using the poppet app if you can figure it out! Have a wonderful morning and make today awesome. Mr. Schiffler and Fernando The state of Minn. is having a writing contest open to all 3-5th graders and we thought it may be fun to try and enter. There is a reward for having your essay chosen and it will be features in "Minnesota Cities" January magazine!
Here is the topic: CIties do lots of things to make our lives better. They provide services such as clean water, fire, libraries, park, police, senior services, sewers and garbage, streets, and sidewalks. If you were major of your town for a day, what would you do to make these services even better than they already are for all people in your city? |
