What a perfect day to visit the SCSU Planetarium. The weather held up for us to have our picnic outdoors and it looks like it should be clear enough to view today's partial solar eclipse. At about 4:23, the eclipse should be at its peak. In MN the eclipse will only cover about 50% of the sun but you will still see a pretty neat show! REMEMBER, don't look directly at the sun, here are some tips for viewing the eclipse today: "A pinhole projector is the safest way to view the partial solar eclipse. Poke a hole into a piece of cardboard, or card stock, and hold it up to the sun. The partial solar eclipse will be projected onto a piece of paper or a screen. Exploratorium has several projection options for those looking to maximize their viewing experience.
NASA also suggests using your hands, interlacing your fingers and looking at the image that's projected on the ground. The same method works with tree leaves. Filters, or a telescope equipped with a solar filter, are another option but must be approved for solar observation; the space agency suggests a No. 14 welder's glass or aluminized mylar. NASA does not recommend using film, color or x-ray film, smoked glass or polarized filters." Collegeville Orchards is a quaint little apple orchard located near St. John's University. We have taken Stella their the past few years. They offer a variety of apples, pumpkins, gourds, jellies, and a petting zoo. On the weekends I know they have had face painting, live music...etc.
Their usernames follow this format: graduation year, first 4 of their last name, first 2 of their first name @isd740.org (ex. Students will then enter their log in information. Once in, they will click on their "learning path" tailored to their personal learning goals based on MAP scores! They can work on ANYTHING they wish in this section. A few of the items they may not know yet, which is perfect. It is helping them to get to their next level of learning! I can help extend those skills here at school but home is a great place as well. I tell students to use www.google.com if they need help with a subject or a word if there nobody around to help! Or use my website for information if possible. |
